Growing season length expands northward since 1860
U S Weather Bureau data show the growing season has lengthened about two to three weeks over the last 80 years, moving the frost-free period roughly 225 miles north. Crops like cotton and corn now require a longer warm period, with shifts observed from Indianapolis to Nashville and beyond while farmers’ planting practices temper the pace of change.
