Cayoe Westren, 90, and Harold Hallgren, Pittsfield residents, were arrested on West Smith Street after state police received a complaint about the car’s operation. Westren was cited for drunken driving and jailed in Erie County on default $600 bond after a hearing. Hallgren, owner, was charged with permitting an intoxicated driver and jailed 10 days in default of fines and costs following the prior complaint.
A tentative schedule for a new joint high school to open in 1954 was outlined at a meeting of Joint Committee members with bond attorney Sidney Riggin and architect Walter Campbell. Key hurdles include the steel strike and potential delays from the Department of Public Instruction. Robert Grice as trustees for three years. Delegates to County Council include Sarnickl, MacBain Sears, Chitlock, Watrous, Strigler, Allen, Burlingame, and others. Installation set for April 1 with Past Commander Ross Fehman in charge.

Danvers police and FBI agents probe an $882,000 theft from an armored truck. Eyewitnesses are sought after a bold morning robbery as three thieves fled in a stolen Buick, abandoning cars in Revere and Danvers. Officers canvass stores while investigators raise the loot to $681,000 with $87,000 in cash left behind. Two men shot in Mudbury are hospitalized. no link to the Danvers case is found in their car.
About forty Masons with Royal Arch degrees will gather Saturday afternoon for a district meeting bringing together Albion Erie Meadville and Columbus Royal Arch Chapter No 200 hosts. Rehearsals start at 2 30 with Mark Degree then Royal Arch Degree, Meadville officers rehearse Royal Ark for 7 30. Grand officers of the state attend. Dinner at 6 30 by Ladies of the Eastern Star in Masonic rooms.
Washington March 29 Senator McCarthy R Wis filed a libel suit for four million dollars in federal court accusing Senator Benton D Count of slander and conspiracy. McCarthy says Benton called him perjurious and deceitful and that the remarks were circulated to push him from Congress. Benton offered to waive immunity, and a section of the constitution shields lawmakers from suit for statements made in Congress.
Several youths tied to burglary rings around the city admitted breaking into boxcars and a vacant home. One 19 year old, James Smith of Catherine Street, faces arraignment on burglary charges after confessing to stealing a bicycle and attempting to sell or discard two electric trains. Additional youths, ages 14 and 16, questioned by railroad detectives, faced charges or were released. some admitted to breaking seals on boxcars but denied taking valuables. Other incidents included a stolen topcoat recovered from a suspect and a gray sport shirt returned to the owner. Vandalism at a vacant West Washington Street home involved oil and flour spread on floors.
Associated Freie reports in Tunis that France arrests Premier Cheitik and three ministers as protests and sabotage rise. Tunisian nationalists demand self government and a National Assembly while Bey elicits limited autonomy talks. Several ministers are detained and transported abroad amid curfews and strikes.
In Trenton on March 26 the State Superior Court ruled Taft's name remains on the New Jersey presidential preference primary ballot set for April 18. The court dismissed removal petitions citing overriding public interest. Taft had announced withdrawal from the state campaign and formally notified the governor he would take his name off.
