Factories show rising quits and hiring as mobilization broadens. Labor statistics report quitting rates near doubling over 12 months, with January 1951 seeing 22 quitters per 1000, 10 per 1000 layoffs, and a 1 per 1000 hiring rate—the highest January since 1941.
