Gas Nothing New In Use Some 40 Years
Washington AP reports nonlethal tear gas used in South Vietnam is a 40 year old chemical agent type, not a nerve gas. Officials note similar gases employed by police and in riot control. CN and DM compounds cause tearing, sneezing, nausea, and eye irritation with short lived effects. Mention of use in Mekong Delta operations and rioting in the U.S. follows.
