Plan Abolishment of Nuisance Tax Plan Abolishment
Treasury officials indicate work on abolishing most remaining war taxes at the next Congress session. Taxes for admission to theatres and amusements, automobile taxes, and stamp taxes are slated to go. Estimated annual yield of about 150 million dollars would be lost. Plan aims to rely on income and corporate taxes, fuel taxes, and tobacco taxes as main revenue sources. A study is being made to determine changes to income and corporate taxes to meet President’s request for broad cuts. Tentative plan includes a one percent corporate tax cut, a one percent cut in normal tax rates, and a two percent cut in surtaxes, with a hope a new cut would stimulate business enough to cover revenue losses.
