FBI Warns Police on Atomic Weapons Smuggling
FBI Director J Edgar Hoover told police to watch for attempts to smuggle atomic weapons into the United States. A letter sent early this year outlined what to look for and how to respond to any suspicious device. The note reportedly had Eisenhower's approval and described two jalamic devices, urging officers to notify FBI offices. The Customs Service at ports of entry also monitors for such weapons.
