Auto Plants Offer More Pay 36 Hour Week Factored In

Police clash with taxi drivers in New York as strikes paralyze Manhattan and Midtown. Police augmented by 200 patrolmen and 150 detectives restore order after violent protests and busier nighttime scenes. Montague and Van Tassel Named in Order In Court

Injunction issued by Judge W E Hirt in Erie bars S W Van Tassel and Tracy P Montague of Union City from buying or selling gasoline oils and greases in Erie and Crawford counties after Emblem Oil Company filed a bill in equity. The suit claims stock sales to United Refining Co of Warren and agreements not to compete for twenty years. The case lists Cerro Montague and Van Tassel as former Emblem partners and notes their alleged efforts to steer customers to Springs Oil Service CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS and Union City. Hearings set for April 5 at 2 p m. Also reports a missing 78 year old farmer in Sigel Jefferson County sought by CCC volunteers.

Bradford man wins $75,000 through race

Jamey Burton, Healey Petroleum superintendent of Bradford, will receive about $75,000 after Landandre stayed in the Grand National Steeplechase. He said it is premature to discuss plans for the money and humorously noted he has not yet the funds. Burton, a native of Ow City, Pa, moved to Bradford a year ago and is father to John 9 and Barbara 4.

Higher Wages Sought for Low Paid Railroad Workers

Washington March 28 Transportation Coordinator Eastman today presented the administration s solution to the rail wage problem to railroad executives and gave them only a few hours to decide The proposals are understood to provide higher wages for track workers and other low paid railroad men He then left the Wil a Hotel and said he would return this afternoon for the executives reaction Eastman declined to predict the outcome or report progress saying progress has been seen or not. He planned to resume meetings with rail unions after this afternoon s conference but may postpone until tomorrow.

Adjourning Probe Into Pa Insurance Dept Delays Inquiry

Harrisburg reports the legislative inquiry into the Pennsylvania State Insurance Department is adjourned until April 20 as officials push for changes in the liquidations division. Joseph Y Marian, head of the division, faced questions about nearly 340000 in discrepancies between loan balances and bank records of the Jefferson Insurance Co. and other affiliated entities under investigation.

Harrisburg March 23 The State Department of Public Instruction begins work on a survey plan for consolidating school units in Pennsylvania. Jurors Drawn for May Term of Erie County Court

Erie county jurors for the May term of criminal court were drawn with many from Corry and Union City. Grand and traverse jurors were selected by Sheriff Dell Darling and Try Commissioners Bell and Stancrele. Corry failed to land a grand jury seat, but several Union City residents were chosen as traverse jurors. Bold Mass. hold up nets $26,000 from Brockton bank car

Five men armed with submachine guns and shotguns robbed a Brockton bank car in a buses industrial district. They escaped with 26000 dollars in shoe factory payrolls without firing a shot. It is the sixth in a series of park fund robberies in Massachusetts totaling about 140000 in six months. Woodruff P.S.C. Member Dies in Harrisburg Hospital

Public Service Commissioner George W. Woodruff, a former Yale football star born in Dimock Susquehanna County, died at 70 after a weeklong bout with pleurisy in Harrisburg Hospital. He was appointed by Governor Pinchot on July 1 1935, a Senate confirmation dispute followed, and he served in public service questions prior to elevation.
