A violent weekend storm drenched the region with winds up to 85 knots causing one death in Unionville, injuries to several, and roof collapses at stores, markets, and homes. Telecast transmitters failed in Philadelphia and Wilkes Barre, with debris and power outages scattered across roads and rail lines. Emergency crews fought fires from blown roofs near Berwick and Peters noted gas-line breaches while multiple lines of Reading Railroad suffered outages.

Police in Tidioute arrest Wayne Glenn president of Penn Glenn Oil Works and David Boyd of Meadville after they allegedly entered the old opera house theater and removed several antiques valued at about 100 dollars. The pair were found outside the abandoned theater after a call from its owner.

Shriver Drops Out of Presidential Race Ahead of North Carolina Primary

Weekend police report notes two car crash and two hit-and-run incidents

Police investigated two hit and run crashes and a two car collision causing 1450 in damage. The two car crash at South Center and Pleasant streets involved Christopher Tarbell and Victor Jaggi with Jaggi cited for failure to yield. No injuries were reported.

Claudine Longet Arrested Over Sabich Slaying in Aspen

ASPEN Colo AP Singer actress Claudine Longet was arrested in connection with the shooting death of Vladimir Sabich a dominant figure on the early 1970s world ski tour. Dist Atty Frank Tucker said Longet posted a bond and was released and that charges would be filed in Pitkin County District Court. Sabich died from a gunshot wound at his home and was taken to Aspen Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
