A slow moving storm dumped heavy snow in southeastern Pennsylvania causing widespread damage to power lines and poles. Crews reported thousands without heat electricity or telephone service as the storm lingered into the northeastern part of the state.
Governor declared extreme preemergency in snow struck eastern Pennsylvania enabling municipalities to bypass normal bidding for private trucks and supplies. State agencies mobilized to clear highways and restore utilities amid the worst storm in years. Over 400 Bell and telephone workers joined rescue efforts across Pittsburgh and eastern districts as roads failed and six deaths were linked to the blizzard. i-State Police fought through four feet of wet snow to reach over 800 stranded motorists, entertainers, babies and others in the Brandywine Restaurant along the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Some evacuated by helicopter with food and medical aid. one man, George L. Bliss, 61, of Rocky River, Ohio, died in the crowded shelter. Rights and rescue efforts continued through the night as highway crews planned an access road clearance and officials coordinated evacuation actions.

An insurance investigator, Melvin Bolen of Rockwood, told a witness he beat his wife and set fire to her bed while she was unconscious. Aurigemma said Boden cooperated to obtain information, with state police aiding the inquiry.
The Corry school board approved $28,519 for remodeling the Hatch Building to add two classrooms, a cost under the architect’s $32,000 estimate. The Erie County Crippled Children's Society hosts a survey registration and evaluation clinic on Thursday March 21 at 10 am for adults and children with proven or suspected muscular dystrophy or related diseases. Names addresses and phone numbers are requested to join a free clinic that will not treat but aid in qualifying for braces, appliances, and therapy. Dr John Euliane will direct the clinic and inquiries go to the Crippled Children's Society. The Erie Chapter of MDAA is a United Fund Agency.

A severe winter storm swept from Maryland to New England, dumping up to three feet of snow and halting transportation. At least 21 deaths were attributed to the blizzard as power outages affected hundreds of thousands, with Maryland and Pennsylvania reporting widespread outages, road closures, and heavy snow depths.
Democratic leaders pressed for fast House Senate agreement to give President Eisenhower a one year freeze of farm price supports and planting allowances. The board considered abandoning the tax, noting a projected revenue gap and plans to replace about $25,000 if dropped, with district figures showing jointure costs and allocations for neighboring districts and individual shares for Col umbus, Concord, Corry, Bigin, and Wayne.
Delegates from about 30 countries met to plan the First World Anti-Communist Congress in Mexico City. The Howts stated the congress would be held likely in August in a European nation.

Garrison faces a murder charge linked to the robbery slay and accomplices Popovich and others face related counts. The case is expected to go to the jury this week. witness Vinicent Seatens, a Pittsb urth bartender, has been convicted of first degree murder in connection with the killing.
Andrews a Furman supporter urged Lt Gov Ray Firman to withdraw his gubernatorial candidacy. He said Pittsburgh Mayor David Lawrence could not be defeated in the Democratic primary, Lawrence the organization candidate for governor.
Corry merchants sponsor an Easter contest for youngsters with cash prizes. Posters are available from merchants, judged by a neutral committee. Egg hunts run March 29 to April 5, with events at Fourth Ward playground and Weight School. Every child up to last grade may participate at designated locations. 750 to 1,000 eggs donated by Clymer GLP Bus Station will be distributed by merchants who award prizes for eggs returned to their stores.

Shirley, 18, of Uniontown drowned when her car skidded on Route 119 near Brier Hill eight miles west of Uniontown and plunged into a reservoir. William Jackson, 22, of Brownsville escaped the fate as his car went over an embankment and sank in about 15 feet of water. Firemen recovered Milo Davis's body two hours after the wreck. Jackson was treated for shock at Uniontown Hospital.
