End of RFC? Reconstruction Finance Corporation fate debated
Republican control of Congress and a push to remove government from private business threaten RFC survival. A liquidation would free an estimated 1.168 billion to help balance the budget, while a Byrd bill proposes starting RFC dissolution next January 1. The RFC dates to 1932, born from Hoover and expanded under Roosevelt, with loans to banks and relief to states, now facing possible abolition amid reorganization talks.
