Court Upholds Allen Hiring As Youngstown Police Chief
An Ohio court of appeals upheld Edward J. Allen's appointment as chief of the Youngstown Police Department by Mayor G P Henderson. The ruling confirms the city charter method and exempts department heads from civil service. The case also notes Allen qualified as an Ohio elector and dismissed a voter-eligibility challenge. Separately, Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph sought an injunction against the Pittsburgh Post Gazette over Sunday edition naming.
