Doubt Erie Man Was Murdered in Fire
Erie on March 18 coroner and doctors will decide if 83 year old Pred H Sheldon died in a murder during a robbery. His burned body was found after 2 am in a barn behind 148 West 16th street. Police suspect a blow to the head and arson to conceal the crime. A $1,120 sum reportedly missing from his sleeping quarters may have motivated the crime. Pathologist Dr. E G Armstrong performed the autopsy and could not yet rule on the skull fractures or the fire injury. Coroner Wood said foul play is not eliminated and the fractures might have occurred when Sheldon stumbled through the flames.
