Turnpike Pays Despite Losses Amid War Time Restrictions

Harrisburg March 17 War time limits heavily cut passenger car traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Secretary John A. Shroyer said passenger car revenue fell about 1000 dollars in six months while truck volume rose slightly, yielding a 115 thousand dollar gain. He argued the toll road may still pay for itself if revenue is measured against the 43.8 million bond issue, but not if based on total construction cost.
