Big Canning Factory Fire Hits Brocton Early Today

Special to the Journal Brocton New York March 10 a large canning plant suffered a fire at an early hour causing about 250000 in damage. Freight Conductor H V Beattie a former Corry resident narrowly escaped when a wall collapsed as flames menaced the plant. Engineer W B Darling on a passing locomotive sounded the alarm and neighbors aided in fighting the blaze as fire crews, hampered by a storm and a out of service alarm system, worked to prevent spread to nearby buildings.

Organize for Erie Pittsburgh Canal planned by union leaders

A meeting of the executive board of the organizing committee was set for next Friday at Franklin to discuss the Erie to Pittsburgh canal plan and related matters. Officials named include Nolan McVichery Kellvingston View Campbell Phipps Shields Dick and Graham with Frank lin and J Dick among others.

Corry Man's Schooner Rescues Sixteen After Four Die In Atlantic Storm

The Elisabeth Howard owned by William Wilard Howard of Corry fought a fierce gale off Sable Island. The schooner rescued sixteen crew members from the distressed Helen M. Coolen while four of the Coolen crew perished. The Elisabeth Howard then proceeded to Halifax for repairs and reported the loss of life and storm damage.

Returning to China Province as Missionaries

Mr Archie L Laraway and family arrive from the East to resume mission work in China. They were hosted by Geo Thomas and another Laraway, and attended a Baptist service featuring a Paul XI message. The family plans travel by auto to the Pacific coast en route to the province containing Peking, with stops in Michigan, Chicago, and Kansas City.

Huge Taxes Paid in Yesterday's Federal Returns

Preliminary federal tax figures from Wallington indicate Americans paid just over 400 million dollars in income taxes yesterday. Officials said the total could reach 420 million, about 27 million more than the prior year. Predictions had pegged yesterday's payment near 400 million.

Federal Judge Thomson appointed the True Company of Pittsburgh as receiver for Continental Grocer Stores of Pennsylvania Inc. Randway fixed at 81000. The company's business alleged to be harmed by a stockholder bill of complaint.

Missing Corry Girl Safe at Sister's Home

Widespread concern surrounded the disappearance of a well known Corry woman who was last seen Wednesday evening. This morning a phone call from Pittsburg relieved her family, confirming she is safe at her sister's home. Police had sought a young man named Connors linked to the disappearance. The girl had worked at a telephony office and was last seen leaving about 11 o clock Wednesday night. Relatives and friends had feared the worst until the call.

Negro bandit killed after railroad hold up

A suspected bandit identified as George Kennedy of Pocatello Idaho was shot and killed at Summit Nebraska after attempting to escape from a robbery of a storage rail car on Union Pacific train No 6. Local reports place Kennedy at the scene last night and the incident ends an armed hold up in the rail yard.
