The Wage Stabilization Board backed by the government pressed for rapid recommendations to ease the steel labor dispute ahead of a potential March 24 strike. Philip Murray and steel unions demand higher wages, while the industry hints at possible price boosts to around nine dollars a ton. A St Louis federal court jury found James P Finnegan a tax collector guilty on two misconduct charges after nine hours of deliberation. Judge Tuber Mull will set sentencing on March 24. Richard Weaver 19 died en route to Titusville Hospital after a head-on collision with a car driven by Glenn Flick of Titusville on Church Run Road six miles north of Spartanshore. Flick and Weaver, both reportedly employed locally, were involved after Weaver allegedly drifted into Flick’s lane while Flick was returning home from work. Police charged White and Vanderhoot with disorderly conduct after a brawl at a Titusville Eagles club. Vehicle damage estimated at $20, Weaver died from a broken neck, and Flick’s 1990 Ford was valued at $136.
In a Erie county civil suit a Corry couple won a total of 93 419.20 against John W Ketstee over a November 8 1950 auto collision. The Blounts claimed right of way was ignored at West Smith Street and Mead Avenue causing a Jeep to strike a tree. The driver was seriously injured and hospitalized for weeks.
