Oil embargo ends. Kissinger Sadat hailed by Arab win
Before the embargo was decreed on Oct 17 the U S imported 10 to 14 percent of its oil from Arab states. The decision to restart flow is a diplomatic victory for Henry Kissinger and Anwar Sadat, praised for pressuring Israeli withdrawal from the Suez Canal and pushing disengagement talks on the Golan Heights. Sadat faced opposition from Khadafy and Boumedienne but won over King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, a pivotal ally.

Oil Lift Likely Won’t Restore Normal Fuel Use
Washington reports that even if the Arab oil embargo ends soon, U S energy officials expect only partial relief. Savings will depend on Arab supply decisions and continued fuel conservation, with imports possibly remaining high for years. If Arab output rises, conservation may still be needed to limit dependency and balance payments.
