Gaspar Morganti a 40 year old Los Angeles liquor dealer asked an Indiana county jury to acquit him of murder arguing self defense for shooting Clarence Fye 28 in 14 year old incident. Witnesses Mike Donato and William Donato testified Fye attacked Morganti with a hammer prompting three shots. An employment notice urges registered defense workers to enlist for national defense programs in a Mutual Broadcasting Network radio address between 8 to 9 30 p m.
A report to Congress shows Alder Fenneylywnia concerns spending 88.7 million dollars on Navy related plant expansion. Bethlehem Steel Company in Bethlehem and Steelton leads the total, with 41.99 million financed by the government and 23.49 million earmarked for Bethlehem Steel plants. Other firms like National Forge and Ordnance Company in Irvine and Erie Forge Company in Erie receive multi hundred thousand dollar grants for heavy forgings, buildings, and equipment.
Washington dispatch reports the Defense Housing Coordinator’s office says the Gert y Pennsylvania housing survey by the FHA Pittsburgh office is complete and a report is being prepared for the President. Tirana was reported to be the focal point of movements toward Rome, with Badoglio possibly en route. Also, three state inspectors investigated a Monroe mine explosion that killed four men.
Berlin says German night raids hit Glasgow and Hamburg, claiming damage to the British munitions industry and ports while many British planes were shot down. Reports say Hamburg Hospitals buried over 50 dead from the attacks, and German forces also targeted Liverpool Hull and Bristol Channel.

Patrolman William Sy, Swan, and a third regular driver are noted as potential hires, with Aero Supply Manufacturing and other city offices linked to the postings.
