Pinchot Urges State Relief Action to AvertDisgrace
Former governor Pinchot warned that all federal and state relief funds would be exhausted by April 1 and that no further federal aid would be available unless Pennsylvania state funds were approved. He cited 1,900,000 unemployed and 400,000 working half time or less, urging relief provisions before March. He opposed funding relief by new taxes and warned of extra sessions to force assembly action. Rep. Howard Turner, Delaware Republican, backed Rice bill upon Pinchot’s finish.
