Richmond Va March 11 Dr Robert L Sanders of Memphis described to the Southeastern Surgical Congress a stomach cancer patient who has lived for a year without a stomach. During surgery the stomach was removed and the upper opening connected to the large intestine. The patient returned to work and eats more often in smaller amounts. digestion is handled by the intestines, the doctor said.
Three thousand young rainbow and brown trout are being planted in Spring Creek and Little Beaverdam by local sportsmen. The fish were supplied by Corry Hatchery and will be released into the streams today.
Maurit accused of stealing 299800 from a Pittsburgh casualty company Barfod former state insurance commissioner won bail 62500 pending trial. Barfod denied charges saying the company was theirs and asked how one can steal from themselves. He had a career as a reporter and advocate for blue sky laws and was appointed commissioner by Governor Finchot.
J. J. Nealon, field supervisor of the emergency crop loan office, will be at the post office Thursday March 11 at 11 30 a m to assist farmers in making crop and feed loan applications. Loans are now available for planting 1041 raps in memory.
Walter H. Scott resigned as solicitor for the City School District after serving for several years. The board received the notice at its Monday meeting and laid the resignation on the table. President Cleve M. Morton praised Scott's service while noting the resignation would take effect on June 1, 1941, to avoid conflicts with his role for the city. A large frame house on Fairview Street near 9:30 p.m. Monday burned in a fire that damaged the Mecusker home and forced its occupants from the structure. Firefighters used three lines of hose to control the blaze, with most of the roof burned away. The fire started on the east roof, causing damage to the upper floor and interior rooms. The property included multiple apartments occupied by Willan Law, Mrs G. W. Hiss, and Carl Way. Mrs Leila Wetmore also resided there.
