Penn State Faces Crowded Enrollments and Space Limits
President Eric A. Walker warned that Penn State cannot admit more students without state support for expansion. He cited a need to hire and retain faculty, add women’s housing, and fund facilities to handle a projected surge in applicants beyond the 14,000 enrolled this year. The university argues current appropriations fall short of 1987 89 needs and that enrollment pressure will force drastic admission restrictions if space and salaries are not boosted.
