In Eire on March 9 a Townsend Club meeting drew more than 1000 Erie district residents. Congressman Crosby voiced backing for social security for the aged, supporting a proposed $200 monthly Townsend plan. Erie organizer J. E. Hogan was named convention chairman and local officers were announced.
A 15 year old Vancouver high school pupil, Jack Thompson, built a tiny locomotive entirely from cardboard. It took him three months to complete, and the model is reported to be perfect in every detail.
Brin March 9 county commissioners will refuse to reduce the present eighth mill tax and announce a drastic economy program to bolster the treasury. They fear tax cuts would risk a $2 balance year end and note the county will not receive tax revenue until June. They may borrow $150 000 on short notes in the next two weeks.
Bradford March 9 announced purchase of the Goff farm in Lafayette by local and county businessmen to establish the McKean County Memorial Park. The 103 acre site will feature landscaping, a chapel with chimes and organ, roads, and an electric fountain. Paul P. Lyons serves as president of the corporation developing the burial estate. The land lies about 10 miles south of Bradford, near Lafayette, near Tackentine Corners on the Lane Bradford highway.
In Edinboro area, Rudie Kozlowski and an unidentified young man escaped a blaze at 2:30 a m caused by a defective chimney. Their two story Route 6 farmhouse sagged as bricks caved in, waking them from sleep. They crawled to a second window and leaped to safety before flames overtook the home. The incident centers on a burning dwelling and nearby early morning danger.
Officers plan to run the 2000 foot elevation one level plateau estate as a nonsectarian cemetery with perpetual maintenance. Besides Mr Lyons the officers include Vice President Luther Lindstrom Secretary William J Burns Jr Treasurer P J Hermes.
Warren Times Mirror reports a herd of about 175 deer grazing on the Moore farm hillside east of Garland every afternoon. Auto tourists and amateur photographers have flocked to the spot as deer linger two thousand feet from the highway, undisturbed by vehicles.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue outlines information reporting requirements for 1935. It covers payments of $1000 or more to single filers or $2500 to married filers, employer information returns for wages, corporation dividend reporting, and brokers or agents in securities or commodities.
Corry Woman's Club sponsors a lecture by noted speaker G Hale Sipe on the beginnings of Pennsylvania at Pariah HW Tuesday evening. Members are urged to attend and bring membership cards for admittance as the capacity audience is expected to be large.
A largely disorderly session saw five candidates initiated into the Garry Grange during a regular meeting Saturday evening. Warner Merry led the proceedings with Corry Grange expected to be represented at Pomonn Crangs next week. The program included entertainment and business discussions, with plans to confer the third and fourth degrees at the June meeting.
