Quasi Police Force Won't Be Disbanded
ERIE The Crawford and Erie Counties Quasi Police Force will not be disbanded. Rep. David S. Hayes said rumors began after members asked the Crawford County District Attorney to clarify powers. An unofficial Harrisburg ruling noted no arrest powers. The agency, chartered in 1872, aids local police with traffic and crowd control. Hayes cites a future bill to detail powers as the charter is vague.

Police Detectives Not As Clever As TV Portrayals
A Rand Corp report finds real life detectives rarely solve crimes by own initiative. In a two year study funded by LEAA, 156 agencies showed routine procedures solve most cases while non routine work helps only about 10 percent in homicide robbery and commercial burglary. Detectives face heavy paperwork and often give only superficial attention to many crimes.
