After nearly three years of investigation, District Attorney Burton Laub obtains a warrant charging Frank Bromley Jr with the murder of Navy Petty Officer Lloyd Wilkinson on a rural North East road. Lt Khl ar Daye of Corry city is listed as a German prisoner of war after December breakthrough in Luxembourg. POW card shows him located Stamm Le ger 12A and awaiting transfer. His wife Mrs Florence Daye, 47 West South Street, learned of the capture late Wednesday. Daye, serving with the South Infantry 2th Division, was reported missing December 18 after leaving Pearl Harbor service earlier this year. He was commissioned at Fort Benning and has seen action since October 1944, wounded in France last year and returned to duty just before the missing report.
The U S Pacific Fleet reports the Japanese on northern Luzon forces showing resilience as American divisions press a limited advance. Major General Keller H Ruckey’s Fifth Division, General Chitton B Cates’ Fourth, and General Graves B Breckinridge’s Third push centerward edge, with gains under 200 yards and a 600 yard salient. The assault follows a day of rest as Marines receive new gear and carrier planes support actions.
Rev Leonard Hagenboom of Clymer, a Presbyterian missionary held at Los Banos prison camp in the Philippines, reports he is in good health. His wife, a former North East girl, remains missing after captivity. Meanwhile Nine conscientious objectors are indicted for desertion from the civilian public service camp Germffnsk Mich by the federal grand jury.
American forces struck the south Luzon coast near Buo, with the 101st Airborne Division and 358th Infantry penetrating to the coast. They met scattered resistance while advancing toward Balayan Bay and the Marikina watershed, supported by heavy air strikes. Japanese entrenchments were bombed as ships and freighters were sunk in the China Sea.
Hospitalization paratrooper Harry Hyde, brother of Joseph Hyde of Paul’s Men’s Wear, arrived in Charleston from overseas and told his mother and brother in Union City he must undergo two more operations before a furlough. A Bastogne veteran, he was wounded January 6 and treated in Belgium France and England after training at Fort Meade and Fort Benning. His mother Mrs Gertrude Hyde and brother Joseph live on East High Street in Union City.

German communique reports the American First Army advancing about 120 miles toward Remagen on the Rhine as other units close in around Coblenz and Koblenz. Eisenhower’s seven Allied armies remain on the Rhine's western bank, with major columns racing toward key river crossings and the Bonn-Frankfurt region.
