Jamestown area sees minimal disorder after a tense day fueled by rumors of outsiders and demonstrations. Police report minor youth disturbance, with officials noting a February 2 shooting had no racial implications and no large outbreak occurred.
Stark County grand jury finds the February fatal shooting of Kenneth Oviatt by Joseph L. Smith in Massillon was accidental. Smith, charged with first degree murder, is acquitted. no indictment for homicide will be returned and the prosecutor is urged to dismiss the murder charge.

Corry State Police identified 18 year old Robert M. Gromley of Titusville as the driver in a daytime Route 8 crash just north of Hydetown. The 1969 auto left the right berm, skidded across the highway, hit an embankment, and suffered 600 in damage. Gromley was uninjured. Christine Lindquist, 15, of 320 Eagle Street, was treated and released at Corry Memorial Hospital for a bruised left elbow after a fall entering Corry Area High School.
The latest suspension list from the Bureau of Traffic Safety names nine drivers from Corry Union City Centerville and other towns. It includes Buddy Burdette and George Paden of Corry with year suspensions, Lanny Fitch with 60 days for speeding, and Ida Ohrn with an indefinite status at Columbus. Other drivers face 30 to 60 day suspensions for license issues and improper passing.
A Titusville teenager Jo Ann Murphy 17 remained in satisfactory condition at Titusville Hospital after being struck by a car yesterday. Police said Gary M Day a Titusville resident, was driving east when Murphy walked into the path of his vehicle and was thrown about 27 feet. She suffered possible fractures to the skull pelvis and wrist with numerous abrasions.
