Seven prisoners escaped through an elevator at the Dallas County Jail during Jack Ruby's murder trial, terrorizing onlookers including a pregnant former stripper named Karen Bennett. Four were recaptured. three remained at large. The escape disrupted a courtroom scene as Ruby faced jurors and a film of the Oswald shooting was shown for the first time.

Los Angeles police said Alfred Layne aged 56 died yesterday from a fire originating in his wooden leg. An internal compartment in the leg sparked the blaze, which burned the leg to his shoe and spread to his clothing, damaging his apartment.
