United States Rent Control Office filed a damage claim against Erie landlord Morris Firman for 1167 dollars alleging over charging tenants in his apartment building. Federal court attaches reported. The claim seeks treble damages under the Rent Control Act, with attorney David Levin representing Pittsburgh office. The case is expected to be tried in Federal Court before Judge Owen M. Buyn.
James Paull of Brownsville, who pled guilty to attempted extortion bribery and conspiracy, may become a witness in the extortion trial of Fayete county tax assessor Frank J. Hradesky. Erie March 7 Russell R Cole 28 of Erie was granted parole by Judge Burton R Taub after pleading guilty January 29 to operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He was sentenced to 90 days in county prison. Parole granted on petition by Cole s wife Rose who said imprisonment would starve their family and their two children with a third child expected. If charged again he must serve the unexpired term and an additional year in the penitentiary.
A government owned Kopera metals plant, the Koppras rubber facility, was rocked by an explosion causing an estimated $500,000 damage. The plant, a key supplier of buladiete, a principal synthetic rubber ingredient, may be idle three to four months. Special agent A Soucy is leading a preliminary investigation to rule out sabotage.
Washington March 7 A note of optimism surrounds Robert L. Smith later called Bob a 20 year old from Middismuns Ba who lost both legs and arms in North Korea. The Army Medical Center says supporters have offered help and money and his brother Herbups West hopes for a title of chiefhiess with him. Bob has faced long recovery aided by letters and visits from friendly people, including the Army.
