Darlene Miller an 18 year old Corry junior high student won the Erie preliminary spelling bee and will compete in the Erie County bee on April 22. One Hurt In Night Of Street Mishaps on Wayne Street
Firemen responded after gasoline spilled on the street. Police said Johnson wrecked his own car New Year’s Eve on Wayne Street when he struck a pole, driving a borrowed vehicle. A separate incident involved Steve Tinko Jr., 51, of Columbus, who struck a parked car on West Pleasant Street while allegedly trying to stop for an oncoming vehicle. Tinko was reportedly speeding toward Williams’ legally parked car on the south side.

Ice causes collision with parked car after brake slip
A driver said his car slid on ice while trying to pull behind a westbound vehicle and struck a parked car. Damage to the Tinko car was about 200 dollars and to the Williams car about 500 dollars. No injuries were reported.

Turboprop plane crash kills 38 along Ohio farm route
The jet powered plane bound from Chicago to Detroit with a Toledo stop plummeted, 38 dead including an infant. Most bodies were within 200 yards of the wreck on Charles C Redding Farm.
