Johnson Closes Transition Office as Library Project Looms
The former president has shut the Washington transition office and is spending about a third of the $975,000 Transition Act fund. Johnson occupies a teak paneled suite in Austin, with in-house staff, while the $11.8 million Lyn don B. Johnson Library complex nears completion at the University of Texas. Mail flow to Johnson has declined as Washington functions shift to Austin, with the GSA managing costs of the new setup.
