School Authority Handles Two Major Projects in Corry

The Corry Area School Building Authority moved on two fronts. It finalized settlements with insurers for the high school fire damage totaling about 511000 after earlier payments. It also opened 40 bids for furniture for the high school addition while continuing financing for Concord and Columbus elementary projects and repairs to the senior high wing.

Pepper Martin Dies at 63 in Oklahoma Hospital

Pepper Martin known as the Wild Horse of the Osage died of a heart attack today in a McAlester Oklahoma hospital at age 63. The former St. Louis Cardinal star rose to fame by helping the Cardinals win the World Series against the Athletics.

Final OK Given for Corry Route 6 Bypass Start

Henry D Harrall secretary of the Department of Highways gave the last order to begin the Corry bypass this year. W W Waterhouse in Harrisburg said construction should start within six months with Public Utility Commission hearings in Corry due to crossing the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks. The project, listed in the 330000 dollar category, is slated for completion around mid 1966.

Planners Unveil Subdivision Code for City

The City Planning Commission, with five observers, unveiled its subdivision regulations at a Municipal Building hearing. Local officials Louis Miller Harold Gilbert Erkki Rainesalo and Paul Taylor explained provisions while City Solicitor Douglas Rozelle and City Engineer David Johnson attended. A second April hearing could lead to council adoption as a city ordinance.

Police found four gasoline filled whisky bottles with wicks in a basement in West Philadelphia yesterday. It was the second cache in 24 hours following five bottles found in a vacant home on Wednesday night. An anonymous call led to the discovery prompted by a neighborhood search after a gang fight.

Runaway Horse Injures Rider and Damages Cars in Warren Township

In Oonewanga Township a horse ridden by 16 year old Larry Olson bolted into traffic at 4 45 pm. The horse struck an eastbound car driven by Joseph Casel and then a truck driven by Donald Chambers, causing $350 in damage. Olson suffered elbow lacerations and was treated at Warren General Hospital. The horse sustained severe head injuries and was destroyed. The horse valued at $200.

Corry Industrial Fund Expands Amid Year of Loans and Jobs

The Corry Area Industrial Development Council fund reports 36,800 new loans and 81,578 repaid on nine loans. Interest income boosted growth by 4.8 percent, with repayments from Erie County Plastics Corry Rubber Corp International Foam and Aero Realty totaling 26,816. Two new loans issued 18,000 to Erie County Plastics and 18,500 to Corry Ibber. Officers elected include H. Martin Keppel president and Dee Long secretary with four-year director terms for Monroe Ott Jr and Philip Zaleneck.
