Television Review Highlights Mixed Berlin and Cohan Shows
New York AP notes Weekend television mixed with Irving Berlin and George M. Cohan works. Sunday Night NBC’s Hogarts in Georges M. Cohan attempted a blend of old images and new numbers but failed to cohere. Peter Lind Hayes led a uneven cast through quaint tunes while clips from James Cagney’s movie gave high points. Friday’s Tele Television Review Hour centered on Berlin music but felt stiff and style lacking. Ginger Rogers and Tanet Blair struggled with Sullivan’s casting and time pressures. Henry Youngman delivered brief jokes, Phyllis Diller overextended a Japanese restaurant routine.
