Senator Joseph Clark of Pennsylvania challenged school aid debate by comparing teacher salaries to other professions. He cited an average of 4,287 dollars for teachers versus 89,439 dollars for 18 listed fields, noting nine month work for teachers and year-round pay for many others, and questioned averaging flaws in the 30,000 dollar surgeon vs 4,000 dollar teacher baseline.
