Erie real estate value debate over West Ninth frontage sale
Two real estate appraisers lined up by the Parking authority and Dr. Jesse A. Root argued the value of his West Ninth street property before the court of viewers. The authority condemns a 58 foot frontage in the 100 block after offering 27 500 dollars. Root values the parcel at 60 000 with prior offer of 56 000. Major hearing began Monday with attorney Russell Orcutt as chairman and viewers William M Schubacker and Bruce Major. Realtor Carl Wright estimated 32 500 dollars, authority said a 5 000 bonus was added to that figure when offering. Root's attorney A Grant Walker argued the block should be valued as business property, not residential. Other Realtors backing Wright included R B Way and Joseph Riley. Dr Root was represented by Phil Cunningham, Graham Marsh, William J Williams and E W Miller. The piece notes changing consumer spending patterns since 1939 versus 1983.
