New York March 5 James J Bambrick leader of the five day elevator strike threatened to extend the walkout unless real estate owners submit the strikers demands to arbitration After a 16 hour conference at City Hall which ended in a 4 pm deadlock the strikers withdrew the demand for immediate wage and hour concessions and agreed to arbitration Walter Gordon Merritt counsel for the Realty Board called the offer unacceptable Mayor LaGuardia urged owners to consider arbitration ready to meet any decision by real estate interests or owners
Depth would be doubled under plans submitted to the Board by Thomas Roelofs, drama instructor. He outlined removing brick ceiling and adding steel girders to increase stage depth from 10 feet 9 inches to about 19 or 21 feet, enabling better school and town presentations and larger graduating classes. Estimated material cost under $100. The matter was referred to the property committee for investigation and a report at next Monday's meeting.
United Press reports the Public Service Commission ordered that an eight percent interest bond purchase by two Pennsylvania subsidiaries of the Associated Gas and Electric Company be halted. The commission demanded a four percent premium and interest installments dating to prior times for a $14,000 bond move between Northern and Metropolitan Edison, used to reduce Northern’s indebtedness.
