Coolidges Return to Quiet Northampton Home After Trip
Former President Calvin Coolidge and Mrs Coolidge arrived in Northampton after a delayed night train from Boston. Residents greeted the returning couple, who had lived here when Coolidge began his political career as town councilman over thirty years ago. The couple slept during the trip and planned to resume life in their modest white duplex near the railroad station. Neighbors waited at the station but learned Coolidge was asleep, then returned home as crowds along the route saluted the former president’s journey.
