GE pays hire would set plan
The General Electric Company and the United Electrical Workers began contract talks for about 126000 workers. GE said a wage increase now would be inflationary and harm employes and the public. The union seeks recognition of new bargaining units and checks off for the contract, plus severance pay, longer vacations, and more paid holidays. The current contract runs to April 1 1949 under a modification clause.
