Jamestown reports gradual progress in Negro employment. A SAACP spokesman notes limited promotion for Negroes, with few in top jobs. cites one Negro executive, a nurse, teachers, and a valet service, but no Negro doctors or lawyers in a 259-family community. An annual award funds the best Negro student in town schools.
Erie swimmers swept all three age groups in Corry at the local pool. Cadets won 36 23. Preps 58 18. Juniors 42 35. Carl Counasse claimed two cadet wins. Jim Stahl led preps with a 40 yard breaststroke record and a first alongside Lundy Amy Marsh in juniors.
The Clymer man, Wiggers, received oxygen therapy after exposure to carbon monoxide. Transported by Corry Ambulance Service to the University of Buffalo, he was placed in a compression chamber for two hours starting at 1 a.m. The procedure aimed to drive oxygen into the bloodstream. He was later moved to Meer Memorial Hospital and remained on the danger list today, with doctor statements awaiting full outcome.
Week at Mondiasapm includes Gra-Y and Junior High events for boys and girls, high school teams, adult and coed swims, and multiple classes. Tuesday features TOPS, duplicate bridge, and chess. Wednesday adds recreational swims and scouts. Thursday offers sewing circle and advanced swims. Friday hosts church choir and family swim. Saturday lists PIAA finals in Pittsburgh and multiple swim and dance activities.
