Astro Jet Liner Crashes After Takeoff From Idlewild
A Boeing 707 Astrojet wet bound for Los Angeles from Idlewild Airport crashed into Broad Channel marsh in Jamaica Bay near Far Rockaway New York killing all 95 aboard. Flight 1 carried 87 passengers and 8 crew, including W. Alton Jones of Cities Service Co. witnesses reported a climb then a steep descent and flames. No survivors were found as debris and smoke filled the marshes immediately after the crash.
