1957 City Tax Cards Go Out In Mails Today

Corry residents receive 1957 real estate tax notices from City Treasurer Carl Smith. The total tax duplicate on an assessed valuation of 18.31 million dollars is 105,280 with a five and three quarter mill rate. Taxpayers have March and April to pay at a two percent rebate. after April 30 a two percent penalty applies if unpaid. After June 30 a five percent penalty. Ward breakdown shows assessed valuations and taxes by ward, including Ward 1 and Ward 4 totals.

Red Vessel Comes To Jap Ship's Aid At Last

The Russian ship Soya Mary freed the Japanese vessel Koya Maru after being iced in off Antarctica since February 17. The Antarctic expedition office said the rescue involved breaking through four to five miles of ice up to 10 feet thick, aided by the Soviet vessel.
