Russia vows war will continue until enemies are conquered

London reports from June 80 that Russia will persist in the war until all foes are humbled. A manifesto from Goramykin, issued behind Galicia’s battle lines, declares unity and readiness to endure a long conflict with allied support. Local youth escapes lightning near Gates home

Nowell Gates son of G W Gates west of town narrowly escaped serious injury during a severe electrical storm yesterday. He moved team of horses to shelter when lightning struck the ground at the tree foot where he stood, tearing a two foot hole. He was uninjured though the shock was strong. The storm also damaged North Center street electric wiring and cut power as a fire was discovered and current turned off.

No More Races on Highways Ordered by State Agency

The Attorney General’s office and the Highway Commission announced new rules prohibiting racing on state and federal roads under supervision of the department. Traction engines and tractors must be licensed and will be held responsible for highway damage. Applications for licenses will be thoroughly investigated to root out evasions.

Austro German Drive Advances Near Lemberg Front

Berlin reports the Austro German offensive under General Mackengen has pushed toward the Russian right wing, threatening to cut off retreating forces east of Lemberg. The advance has driven Slavs northward back to their border, penetrating thirty eight miles toward Tombers and reaching the Belx district from Kotmanov to Zamax.

Business at the U S Brake Shoe Company plant in Corry is improving as orders from firms across the country grow. About 25 men are employed full time, producing roughly seven tons of brake shoes daily mainly for western states, with strong prospects from Chicago firms and ongoing development of a new oil burner.
