Navy court declines to rule on Israel knowledge in Liberty attack
The Navy court of inquiry released a London Malta based summary saying it found the Liberty in international waters and properly identified but offered no judgment on whether Israeli jets and PT boats knew they were attacking the U S vessel. It noted surveillance of the ship and that no evidence addressed the attackers intent. Eighty eight sailors and a civilian NSA technician died and 75 were injured in the June 8 attack. Israel's government launched its own inquiry while Defense Department officials said the Liberty was deployed to aid communications and information relays in the region.

Survivor’s account counters Pentagon on Liberty attack
AP reports a USS Liberty survivor recalls a crewman sealed in a flooding compartment during the Israeli raid, challenging the Pentagon’s claim that all who died were killed instantly. The interview notes at least one man trapped and drowning as water flooded the torpedo hole.
