Philadelphia June 29 A patrolman Thomas J. Mathews 32 ex paratrooper was shot twice at close range on a wooded estate in suburban Abington Township. Officers rushed to the scene after the fleeing prowler opened fire. Mathews fell with his pistol holstered and handcuffs in hand as Lieut. Alwyn Streeper described the early morning incident.
