Rhododendron Bloom Shines in Pennsylvania State Forests
Harrisburg June 26 One of the largest and most ornate native shrubs of the year in our state forests is the rhododendron or Green Laurel. John R. Williams director of the bureau of Parks says rhododendron is taller than mountain laurel, with long leathery evergreen leaves. The bloom appears late June through early July, sometimes into August, and ranges from white to deep rose. Despite many hybrids in cultivation, Pennsylvania sylvan rhododendron remains a striking native accent worthy of admiration.
