Narrow escape as gasoline drum explodes in Clinton street shop
James Anson, a welder in a shop occupying part of the former Safford cycle works on Clinton street, had a narrow escape when a gasoline drum he was working on exploded. He suffered facial and arm burns, glass from the front window was shattered, and the blast knocked him against the building. He was treated at Dr Ribler’s office. The drum belonged to J Lynch of the south side and the heavy steel container exploded with a terrific force. The incident occurred outside the building and could have caused greater damage if inside.
