Prehistoric Battle Unearthed at Wyoming Valley Site

Archeologists date a 1550 A D siege near the Susquehanna River to a circular four acre palisaded village of the Wyomings Valley Ceramic Complex. The find, from the Schacht Site, shows an unknown people who perished in local Indian wars before written history. Susquehannock forces destroyed the town connected to a confederation of small communities. The dig, a joint project of state historical groups, reshapes Indian history in the Susquehanna region.
