Police recaptured Gilbert Waters, 29, of Pittsburgh, an escapee from Western Penitentiary. He had been serving a burglary sentence of 14 months to three years. He was taken into custody today and a funeral home viewing was noted nearby after the arrest.
Hurricane Audrey lashed the Gulf coast with 100 mph winds, flooding and rough seas. Ten deaths were reported as Sabine Texas and surrounding areas faced high tides and failed communications. The Keturah fishing vessel sank offshore Galveston with nine believed drowned.
