US sailors and state and federal officers search east central Mississippi while 100 sailors join FBI and Mississippi highway patrol in mud filled swamps. The missing are Michael Schwerner 24, Andrew Goodman 21, and James Chaney 22. Their burned station wagon was found 17 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
The two car crash that killed 12 year old Raymond Higley Jr. near Corry is under investigation by Trooper Vincent ae of the Corry State Police. Witnesses say the cars driven by Robert L. Johnson 19 of Youngsville and his brother Lorrie R. Johnson from Sugar Grove sped between 70 and 100 mph and rode side by side before a collision that sent Robert’s car off the berm and end over end for 105 feet after a 405 foot initial impact. Raymond Higley Jr. was killed. Norma Olson 18 and her son 15 months and John Johnson 15 were hurt. Mrs Olson was moved to St Vincent's in Erie. others remained in Corry hospital and were listed as satisfactory. Charges against the drivers await the investigation outcome.

A dynamite laden truck exploded near Stroudsburg Pennsylvania on Route 209, killing five people including three Marshalls Creek volunteer firefighters and John Regina, while injuring two more. Snakes were freed from a nearby reptile farm and littered the road as authorities searched damaged buildings for victims.
A milk delivery truck slid on oil along Route 6 near the city edge at 11 AM. Ten year old David Davis, passenger, suffered bruises and abrasions when the Meadows Brook Dairy truck rolled over in a grassy field. Driver Arthur O Day from East Main Street escaped injury. Davis was taken to Corry Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A Philadelphia family of four learned their orange pottery dinnerware used for two years contained uranium oxide. Tests show the items emit 240 milli roentgens daily, far above safety limits, but no harm occurred. Bruce Guber man, a Temple freshman, learned of the danger from a classmate.
Western Chautauqua Recreation Inc announces Peek n Peak a quarter million dollar winter sports resort 12 miles north of Corry on Route 426. The 380 acre site will open this December for winter activities with three year construction for trails lifts lodge and parking. Four local men Gravink Babcock Boozel Carlisch with Jack Dean lead the venture aided by Otto Schniebs as consultant and architect aiming for a top vertical and long expert and novice trails serving western New York Pennsylvania Ohio Indiana Michigan.
Erie County reports 94 100 employed and 5 200 idle, 5 2 percent unemployment, the lowest since November 1956. Factory employment up 400 from April to 98 100, surpassing 1962 by 1 100 with gains in furniture, non electrical machinery, transportation equipment, rubber and plastics. One month totals show 3 050 unemployment compensation filings, with women comprising about half.
William Northrop, a Chicago construction worker, was awarded a medal for subduing and capturing an assailant who attacked a stenographer. He said, I acted on instinct, I saw someone in trouble and I wanted to help. Wouldn’t anybody?!
