Pressure to extend excess profits tax faces opposition

President's request for a profits tax extension meets opposition. Carlson and Reed clash over compromise ideas. A proposed extension to October 1 with a concurrent 10 percent income tax cut faces Treasury rejection, while Halleck favors exempting firms under $100,000 profit. Reed previously supported moving the cut to July 1, retroactive if needed, but administration stance remains firm.
