Formal Announcement of Candidacy Fire Apparatus Summoned
A neighboring town responded to a midnight alarm as a fire broke out at the McCray residence in Higgin. Neighbors formed a bucket brigade to hold the blaze until city fire engines arrived and doused the flames, preventing further damage. The south side and roof suffered extensive damage, with parts of the home's furnishings lost. Mr. McCray, living with his mother in Higgin, could not estimate total loss, insurance covering part of it. Fire officials credited speed and city apparatus with saving adjacent homes.
