Air Mail Pickup Decision Delayed in All American Case

Associated Press reports Civil Aeronautics Board official Warren E B Baker says a decision on All American Aviation to discontinue airmail pickup could take about six months, with a ruling not expected before year’s start. Baker notes the final stages of hearings and a complex case. The Post Office backs abandoning pickup as too costly amid declining mail volume.

Suspect held in Ohio jewel theft linked to Ashtabula rings

Clarence R. Shriver, 38, a layaway suspect, was identified by jeweler Emil Cedarquist as the man seen in his store days before the June 4 robbery. Cedarquist recognized eight diamond rings from the shipment, tied to an earlier $1,200 larceny at Conrad's Jewelry Store. Police recovered two dozen golf balls, a portable radio, a camera, and the rings, but the rings did not match the original theft. A teletyped alert aided the link to possible regional thefts as detectives pursue more evidence. Burgess notes potential changes to mail pickup service and pending All-American routes.
