Walter Sweet of Citizens National Bank volunteers as treasurer and notes limited funds received so far. Residents urged to contribute daily to reach an encouraging total, with gifts handled by the bank.
Wayne Robinson of Union City sustained severe cuts to head and face and other bruises in a serious automobile collision about 2:95 Sunday morning on Route 6 a half mile west of Range's Corners. His car, eastbound, struck a sedan driven by H J Powers of Mill Village. Both cars suffered heavy damage the estimated total over 800. Powers and other occupants escaped. Robinson’s car rolled and the driver was taken to a Union City physician for treatment.
Clarence and Wayne Morton of Corry were charged with car racing on North Center Street after an unusual arrest on Saturday night. Each drove a separate car and faced a deadline of eleven days to answer the charge and settle. Previous traffic violators in the area had appeared and paid fines of $12.35 each in prior settlements before Magistrate Porter.

Washington June 28 federal government votes to halt departure of Italian nationals from the United States duplicating steps used against Germans on June 18. The Justice Department says migration and border patrol officers are to prevent any Italian national from leaving the country pending further instructions. Treasury issued similar instructions to customs officers.
British patrols intercepted the 4422 ton German supply ship Babitanga, believed disguised as a Dijjeh merchant vessel. The vessel was en route to Brest from Hazilian waters, according to the Admiralty.
